Often when a new friend joins us in the forest I will make them a doll to carry around with them. Some of you might have received a doll made out of grass or sticks. Today you will learn how to make your very own.
First you need to find the all important Y stick. And a second slightly shorter stick for the arms.
You’ll also need the supplies from your kit 🙂
My rudimentary photo instructions are below:
Find a Y stick.
Mine has a W on one end.Turn it upside down.
Now you have legs 🙂
Mine has a foot.Add your second stick
behind to make arms.
Secure with a pipe cleaner.
Or two.
Wrap diagonally on each side.
Twist the ends to hold.Use some yarn and
an elastic to make hair.Wrap with fabric to make clothes.
Tie knots to secure the ends. This adorable photo came from Naturally Curious Children who can be found on Facebook.
Stick dolls are a frequent Forest School activity as they provide an opportunity to practice
skills such as scanning, sorting, wrapping and knot tying,. Not to mention the creative exercises.
